Work authorisation — important
A language-course student visa does NOT include automatic work authorisation. A separate application at Extranjería (with a job contract or offer) is required to work legally during the course. If work rights from day one are a priority, see the Grado Superior pathway below.
Grado Superior — Official Vocational Degree
Includes Work AuthorizationThe Técnico Superior is an official, government-recognised qualification. 2,000 teaching hours, Ministry of Education diploma, and 515 hours of paid work placement.
Work authorisation from day one — no extra process
Unlike language-course visas, the Grado Superior student permit includes automatic work authorisation from day one — no separate Extranjería application required. Work during Year 1 mornings and evenings; in Year 2 (afternoon schedule) you can work full mornings legally.

Common questions
Can I work in Spain on a language-course student visa?
Language-course student visas do not include automatic work authorisation. A separate application at Extranjería is required — you need a job contract or offer from an employer. If work rights from day one are important to you, the Grado Superior pathway includes them automatically.
Does the Grado Superior include work authorisation automatically?
Yes. Students on a Grado Superior student permit can work legally without any additional application — the permit itself includes work authorisation. In the second year, afternoon schedules allow students to work during mornings.
What is the refund policy if my visa is denied?
Language course: full refund minus the €350 enrolment fee upon official consulate denial. Grado Superior: full refund minus the €500 enrolment fee. Each case is reviewed individually based on the consulate's written decision. If the consulate alleges document fraud, the refund is withheld pending resolution of any appeal.
Can I pay for Grado Superior in instalments?
Yes — all Grado Superior tracks offer a two-instalment option. The first payment activates enrolment and triggers visa document issuance. The second payment is due before the second year of the Grado Superior begins — approximately one year after the first payment.
When do courses start?
Language intensive (Spanish/Catalan): new intakes typically open at the start of each month. Up to B2 accelerated track: three intakes per year — January–February, June–July, September–November. Grado Superior: the 3-year International track starts in September; the 2.5-year track starts January–February; the 2-year direct-entry track has specific intake dates confirmed on enquiry.
Do I need to speak Spanish to enrol in the Grado Superior?
For the 2-year track (direct entry), yes — a working level of Spanish is required as classes are taught in Spanish. For the 3-year and 2.5-year international tracks, you begin with an intensive language year first, so no prior Spanish is needed.
Can I change from a tourist visa to a student visa without leaving Spain?
Yes — but only when enrolling in the Grado Superior programme. It is the only pathway that permits this status change from within Spain. Requirements: minimum 60 days remaining on your tourist stay at the time of application, submitted within the first 30 days of arrival in Spain.
